If it weren't for my husband, I would already have Christmas decorations everywhere. He thinks that ridiculous, so we compromise... I wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate. That's the compromise. LOL.
This potpourri recipe is the second easiest way to have your home smelling like the holidays, minus the Christmas tree. First, you could light a candle, but that wouldn't be very "DIY blog post" of me so instead, I decided to whip up some Thanksgiving/Christmas smells to simmer on my stovetop all day (second easiest way). To be honest, the smell whafting from my kitchen beats a candle ANY DAY.
It's so simple.
1 orange, cut into slices
1/2 c. cranberries
4 cinnamon sticks (halved)
1 Tbs. whole cloves
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. water
2 Tbs. vanilla extract
Combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan and allow to simmer all day, adding more water as it gets low.
P.S. I suggest preparing this potpourri while sipping a Chestnut Praline Latte from Starbucks because it really adds to the experience. ;)
