This evening I had a lengthy and detailed anatomy scan for baby Apperson who is indeed a GIRL. Every time I think about it, I get more and more excited. A set of baby girls: what could be sweeter?!
The ultrasound revealed all of the necessary body parts and organs in perfect working order. The report is being sent to a radiologist for an even closer look just to be cautious and NOT because anything appeared amiss. I might have shed a few tears seeing her perfect hands waving and covering her face. One of my favorite moments happened during the facial scan as the tech checked for anomalies (there were none, praise!!) and exclaimed, "Oh my, she has some beautiful lips!" I chuckled because those were the same features at which I marveled on her sister. Baby Laura has a really beautiful mouth! Maybe it's my obsession with lips since mine are scarred from an accident and stitches as a two year old? LOL. Whatever the case, I'm not letting my girls anywhere near a set of stairs until they're ten! Hehe.
The waiting game:
The ultrasound revealed that I have placenta previa, which is a condition in which the placenta partially or completely covers the cervix. I have to return for a follow-up ultrasound in four weeks to see if there's any improvement as sometimes the placenta will "rise up" away from the cervix as the uterus expands. Too easy, right? However, if at the time of my next ultrasound, they find that my placenta hasn't moved, I will have a c-section probably before term to avoid hemorraging and endangering baby. There are other complications but as I have never experienced this, I haven't done much research on it either! I'm not especially worried as the knowledge that our baby is growing safely in my womb eclipses any other worries or doubts I might have.
Also, my God performs miracles and has had this little angel in His hands from the beginning. Placenta previa has nothing on prayer! And if that is what I'm to face, I know there will be grace for it.
Thanks for all your prayers and support thus far! You guys are so awesome.
P.S. I'm SO FAR behind on emails and messages. Like, months. I'm sorry! I WILL respond to each of you in time. I love reading what you have to say and it so blesses my heart that you take the time to write to me. Also, so funny... THANK YOU to everyone who sent me messages about drinking wine while pregnant. LOL!!! I DO occasionally drink about 4 oz. of red wine but only in the third trimester as every doctor I've spoken to has assured me it's perfectly safe. It cracked me up that you guys were looking out for me and my wine cravings.
Much love! xoxo
